EUREKA, CA – California’s only organic festival will return to the Eureka waterfront for its fifth annual celebration of non-toxic and natural living on Sunday, August 30, with bluegrass icon The Del McCoury Band and international reggae star Tanya Stephens headlining the day-long event.
The popular Organic Planet Festival features nonstop music, great organic food and drink, and dozens of exhibitors showcasing healthy and natural products. A variety of activities, demonstrations and guest speakers – including nationally syndicated radio host and organic gardening guru Mike McGrath -- will all be focused on the festival’s underlying theme of transforming every-day practices from harmful to healthy.
Hailed as the #1 Bluegrass band in the nation, Grammy-winning The Del McCoury Band is celebrating Del’s 50th Anniversary with a nationwide tour. Del – who is revered by college students and grandparents alike – is joined by a virtuoso band that includes two of his sons. Together they play an eclectic mix of tunes in a solid base of traditional style.
Also headlining the music lineup will be the Jamaican lyricist Tanya Stephens, whose critically acclaimed dancehall reggae style displays a wide-ranging musical imagination and keen wordplay. Tanya and her band will bring a breath of the Caribbean into the mix of great entertainment.
Award-winning Peter Alsop, famous among kids of all ages for creating entertaining albums of songs for children will appear in a line-up of other original artists including a North Coast favorite, poet songstress Lila Nelson, and Oakland’s multi-cultural Latin fusion band LoCura.
Activities to enjoy include an eco-hip fashion show, home gardening workshops and demonstrations, a food drive, the ever-popular kids’ village and petting zoo, a drawing for $1,000 of non-toxic and organic groceries, door prizes, exhibitions and much more. It's a great day of fun -- and it’s all organic!
