EUREKA, CA – The Grammy-winning Del McCoury Band, which has been hailed as the best bluegrass band on the face of the Earth, will fittingly headline the Organic Planet Festival's day of nonstop and spectacular music on the Eureka waterfront on Sunday, August 30.

Sharing the billing on the festival's diverse musical lineup will be international reggae star Tanya Stevens, Humboldt's own poet songstress Lila Nelson, Oakland's multicultural Latin fusion band LoCura and award-winning songwriter for kids Peter Alsop.

Del McCoury, celebrating his 50th anniversary and capping a nationwide tour, is joined by a virtuoso band that includes two of his sons.  His appearance will highlight the festival, California's only celebration of natural, non-toxic living, now in its fifth year and sponsored by the Eureka-based Californians for Alternatives to Toxics (CATs).

The incredible music will accompany the festival at Halvorsen Park which also will feature gardening workshops and a keynote address by Mike McGrath, former editor of Organic Gardening Magazine and host of the nationally syndicated radio show "You Bet Your Garden."

Also on tap during the celebration will be dozens of exhibits displaying natural and healthy products, a kids' petting zoo, an eco-hip fashion show of designs made from recycled materials, drawings for thousands of dollars in groceries, great organic food and a food drive. What's more, visitors can enjoy partaking of the world's largest organic salad.

The activities go nonstop from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and tickets are just $12 in advance or $15 at the gate. Get tickets at the Arcata and Eureka Coop's, the Works in Arcata or Eureka and Wild Horse Records in Garberville.
